Kids drinks remain unchanged : )
Categories affected
Drip coffee / cold brew - where most of our cost is directly the coffee itself. (+30-80 cents)
Cappuccinos - we switched to lactose free milk which steams nice and fluffy, then forgot to update the price last year. (+37 cents)
Lattes - Just a straightforward bump for the increase in coffee cost (+20 cents)
Matcha - to be frank it’s at a reasonable price now for the quality haha, just trying to keep up (+40-70 cents)
Every day lattes - To echo the matcha, our worst margin drinks but we love making ‘em. Keepin’ it real (+48 cents)
Long Version
So Prices have gone up, duh. Particularly coffee itself which saw a “C” price increase (commodity or international standard) many times over earlier this year, and is now facing upcoming increases via tariffs. Which we’ll begin to see the fallout on over the coming months, once raw green beans get bought and cycled out with the current inventory in an importer’s storage. Those green beans are good in there for up to a year some say, but regardless of when they get sold they need to be cycled out eventually. In order to buy coffee at that higher price, we also need to have made money by selling it at that price. So we gotta start now.
On the bright side we did some math and we were able to sneak in a few cents here and there to get our non dairy milk’s upcharge off the table, and feel good about giving the staff a collective raise too which they deserve for the volume spike they’ve been dealing with.
The big difference was in two categories. Obviously we’re doing a lot of every day lattes which are our most popular drinks, the hopscotch and honey bear mainly; Those prices have collectively gone up a lot and we needed to catch up. The real underdog though is our Matcha! Holy cow. We went from doing 70 or so this last holiday season, to now making somewhere between 250-300 a month. It’s become a total staple, and it was our worst margin drink. We ate it because we believed in it, and sometimes that pays off. Shout out coco shake too. Now we’re in matcha city and we’ve gotta make it out alive.
Lastly just want to say that raising prices is always stressful, but it’s time to get ahead of the rest of this year. It’s for the well being of the shop, and I think that by removing the upcharge for non dairy milks, we feel a little better about things here. Still kicking that $9 latte down the road for as long as posible.
